• In the early 1980’s Egyptian entrepreneur, Mr. Mohamed M. Abou el Enein, had a vision to start producing quality tiles in Egypt.
  • He took a big risk by opening, in the middle of the desert, the most modern ceramic tile factory in the world, with single-fire technology.
  • In 1982 he started arranging staff, gathering technological know-how, organizing a team of Egyptian youth, training and laying the foundation for electrical, transport and water infrastructure.
  • In 1983 the first factory, Ceramica Cleopatra, was opened in 10th of Ramadan City.
  • The factory started out with 3500 m2 a day, four lines and 300 members of staff.
  • After that production doubled every three months.
  • In 1990, Egyptian President Mubarak made his first visit to Ceramica Cleopatra.
  • During this same time, Ceramica Cleopatra expanded into markets outside of Egypt: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Libya and Lebanon.
  • In 1992, Group Ceramica Cleopatra opened a factory for the production of sanitary ware and acrylic bath tubs.
  • In 1993, Mr. Abou el Enein opened Ceramica Eldorado, the first factory for porcelain and gres tiles in the Middle East.
  • This factory meant that Group Ceramica Cleopatra no longer needed to import tiles to satisfy its local and international markets.
  • In 1993, Chinese President Jiang Zemin made an official tour of the factory.
  • By this point the market was convinced by the high quality of Egyptian tiles, which were also 50% less than the cost of Italian tiles.
  • In 1995, Ceramica Cleopatra successfully entered the Japanese market, where the demands for standards of quality are extremely high.
  • In 1995 Group Ceramica Cleopatra was awarded the ISO 9001 certificate
  • In 1997, Group Ceramica Cleopatra won the ‘Unido Innovative Enterprise Award’
  • In 1998, Group Ceramica Cleopatra was awarded the rights to develop an Industrial Park in the Suez Special Economic Zone.
  • Also in this year, Group Ceramica Cleopatra won the ‘Inpex Award of Excellence’ and the ISO 14001
  • Group Ceramica Cleopatra opened its second factory, Ceramica Eldorado.
  • In 1999, new kilns were added to the factory Cleopatra Eldorado in Suez to boost production.
  • In 2000, Cleopatra Mineral Resources (CMR) was started – a mining company which extracted homogenous raw materials for tile production.
  • In 2001 the third factory, Ceramica Fancy, was opened. At this factory wall, floor, porcelain tiles and decorated and plain sanitary were produced.
  • In 2008, Galleria Cleopatra was opened. This is Group Ceramica Cleopatra’s fourth factory and the most technologically advanced factory of its kind in the world.
  • By 2008, Group Ceramica Cleopatra has 12 thousand members of staff, produces 90 million m2 of tiling annually and around 1 million pieces of sanitary ware annually and it exports to more than 100 countries globally.
